Montreal’s CFCF (who played Wrongbar last week) have released a new video for You Hear Colours from the album Panesian Nights. Watch it below.
Here’s video proof why you need to see Handsome Furs live. MFR (Minneapolis Fucking Rocks!) filmed the duo perform Legal Tender (take from their new album Face Control which is out today) a couple nights ago. They are freakin’ amazing live, I can’t wait till their back in Toronto.
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s have released two remixes of their most recent single Zero taken from their forthcoming third album It’s Blitz. One by MSTRKRFT (who play Decadence Easter weekend in Toronto), the second by N.A.S.A. It’s Blitz is out next Tuesday.
Zero (MSTRKRFT Remix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Zero (N.A.S.A. Bloody Lobo Remix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The first three months of 2009 has seen the release and leak (drip.drip.) of tons of really great albums. Here’s what has been on heavy rotation the last two months:
Telefon Tel Aviv – Immolate Yourself - Released in January, Immolate Yourself is Telefon Tel Aviv’s third and final album. Final because founding member Charles Cooper died on January 27th, only 7 days after the release of the album. Terribly heartbreaking, the band shows such great promise with this album. It has a distinct romantic pop 80s sound, modernized using clean production. Album opener, The Birds is near perfect, a perfect blend of bedroom electro house and the sadness of the new romantic pop movement (I hear moments of Depeche Mode’s lyrical greatness here). This is the album that Junior Boys have been trying to make their entire career but haven’t. It’s near perfect.
CFCF – Panesian Nights – Montreal, Quebec’s CFCF (named after CTV’s sister station in Montreal) is Canada’s answer to new disco. Sometimes more chilled out, other times big, bouncy and dance ready Panesian Nights is pretty wicked from start to finish. Full of lush acoustic instruments and cheerful synths, this album should be part of any dance music fans collection. Standout tracks: The Explorers, Crystal Mines (reminiscent of Crystal Castles) Goodbye. CFCF play Night Of The Living Disco at Wrongbar on March 27th.
TMDP – S/T: TDMP are Toronto boys Gavin Rough and Jeffrey Addison, long time friends that started to record together as TDMP just over a year ago. They hooked up Craig Hill of YYZ Records to release their debut. TDMP marry disco, electro and dirty French bass in a perfect way. Their music spans multiple different genres and is pretty difficult to classify. From start to finish, their debut is simply amazing. Standout tracks: Fixed Wing, Montage and TMDP.
VW performed a new song titled “White Sky” on Jimmy Fallon last night. Loves it.
The Pet Shop Boys were given a lifetime achievement award at the Brit Awards last night. Watch their performance below, it’s a medley of a bunch of their hits and features appearances by Brandon Flowers and Lady Gaga (WTF?).
YYY’s new single has leaked onto the interwebs. Listen to it below. I really really like it. From the forthcoming album It’s Blitz!, out April 14th on Interscope.
In anticipation for tonight’s show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, please take a gander at Antony performing a heart-breaking version of Hope There Is Someone from the Mercury Music Prize winning I Am A Bird Now. For those attending tonight, enjoy the show. It looks to be 100% sold out.

The National, supporting…I’m not sure but still incredibly excited play Kool Haus Thursday May 21. Ticket, $24.50 on sale this morning at 10am via Ticketmaster, Rotate This, Soundscapes and at the bar at the Horseshoe.
Bowerbirds play the Drake Underground on May 2nd. No ticket details as of yet.
Kings of Leon play the Air Canada Centre (how and when did they get so popular??) on April 21st. Tickets on sale February 20th.
Noah and the Whale are at the Mod Club on April 27th. Tickets, $12.50 on sale now here or at Rotate.
Ladytron are back in Toronto at the Phoenix on April 6th. Their last Toronto show was during Harbourfront’s Beats and Beats festival last summer. Wasn’t terribly impressed with their live show, and the $28.50 ticket price (which are available now here) doesn’t make this show any more enticing. Omaha, Nebraska’s The Faint are also on the bill.
Lily Allen’s Toronto show was been moved to Sound Academy.
Tickets for Thunderheist’s headlining show as part of Exclaim Magazine’s cross Canada tour are on sale now here (at least the Toronto show at the Phoenix). Tickets are $15.
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. Lil’Wayne was on Letterman last night to do the Top 10 list. Last night’s list was Letterman’s Top 10 reasons he was looking forward to Sunday Night’s Grammys. Wayne does a great job and looks blasted out of his mind. Loves it.
